Champion Power Equipment 76533 3800 Watt Dual Fuel RV Ready Portable Generator with Electric Start

Released by Champion Power Equipment, the 76533 should be one of the considerations when looking for a travel-ready generator. This can also be a good solution for those who experience power failures regularly. Here is a better explanation of the features that make this power generation equipment a smart investment.

To begin, the Champion 76533 is a dual fuel genenerator, meaning it can run on either regular gasoline or propane. They both have pros and cons. Though propane is a poor choice of fuel for cold weather use, it offers longer storage time so no need to worry about having fresh gasoline on hand during an emergency. Propane hose with regulator is included to connect to a propane tank. A fuel selector switch allows you to quickly switching between fuel sources.

This generator runs 3800 watts (4750 starting watts) on gasoline. On propane, it will produce 3420 running watts (4275 starting watts). You have over 30 amps of running power. It would handle a 15k BTU air conditioner and a small power hungry appliance at the same time with no problems. Just be sure to check your devices for power requirements.

As of fuel consumption, a 20 lb. propane bottle should give you about 10.5 hours at 50% load. With a 3.4 gallon ((12.9 L) fuel tank, the RV ready generator offers a run time of up to 9 hours on a full tank of gasoline depending on the load. The generator will lose 3.5% of its capacity for every 1000 feet you travel above sea level.

There are two 120V 20A outlets (5-20R) built into the system. It also comes with 120V 30A RV (TT-30R) and 120V 30A locking (L5-30R), making it travel-ready. To protect your appliances from a sudden voltage spike, a built-in surge protector
called Volt Guard is built into the panel. The portable generator only has 120 volt service. It does not have 240 volt output. For this feature, have a look at the Champion 71531 that comes with a 120/240V (L14-30R) outlet.

If your old gas powered generator is always a pain to start, then you will be happy that this unit features a push-button electric start system. The 9Ah/12V battery charges while unit is running. There is a pull rope to manually start the engine in case the battery goes dead. Remote starter is not available on this model.

The 3800 Watt dual fuel generator has a run hours on the meter, allowing you to easily track maintenance intervals. It also has a digital voltage meter on the panel so that you can easily monitor power output. There is no fuel gauge on this model. The neutral is floating with respect to ground.

The 224cc 4-stroke OHV Champion engine will run at a governed 3600 rpm at all times. The engine does not idle down when not drawing power. Oil capacity is 0.6 qt. (0.6 L). Recommended oil is SAE 10W-30. The engine is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off feature. It will stop running when the oil level in the crankcase falls below the threshold level. To add extra convenience, oil funnel and start up oil are included.

The Champion Power Equipment 76533 is 50 state compliant (EPA+CARB certified). The engine is equipped with a spark arrester. Noise level is 68 dBa at 23 ft according to the description. Definitely not what you would call super quiet but not obnoxiously noisy either.

Unit dimension are 26.3″ (L) x 24.8″ (W) x 22.9″ (H). At 54 kg (net weight), the small engine generator may be a little heavy to move around. Fortunately, it comes with a wheel kit that includes 8 in. never flat wheels and a handle for better mobility. Some assembly is required but it would not be a big issue.

At this time of writing, the Champion Power Equipment 76533 commands a respectable 4.6 out of 5 stars on the Amazon ratings. This proves how good the product is.

There is not much bad to be said for this CARB compliant generator. The generating capacity suggests that it will not be a good solution for powering a whole house. That said, based on the customer feedback, it will make a great addition to your RV.

The Champion Power Equipment 76533 is not the only portable generator that comes with a dual fuel system. The Duromax XP4850EH that offers a slightly higher wattage rating is another product that you will want to take a look at. Read more about the product review here.
